Do you need in-person or is remote training ok? Two organizations I can suggest for remote training are Frontrunner from Toronto & Roundpeg in San Diego. You might also look at Matt Sullivan – he did write the book, you know.

Thanks, Jeff!

Yes, remote classes seem to be more common for Fm these days.

I run both online and in-person classes for roundpeg (Pacific time zone, in Newport Beach CA).

Thank you.  Here is my situation:

In the mid 1990s I trained in electronic prepress and by mid 2000 I had worked for a number of service bureaus when the field downsized, leaving me with few opportunities and a lot of competition.  In 2004 I moved away from the NYC area to where even fewer opportunities existed.  Since I have been here, recruiters have contacted me every year or two about a position that requires proficiency in MS Word and Adobe FrameMaker.  I had never trained in FrameMaker because it was rarely required in any of the places I worked and in fact the only customer I can recall using it withdrew the order after we had difficulty processing the job.

I am currently between jobs and have already been approached about the aforementioned job earlier this year.  It has been recommended that I train in Word and FrameMaker so that I will be prepared next time.  Finding inexpensive local classes in Word won't be a problem.  However FrameMaker does not seem to be within my current budget without financial aid.  What are my options?

Sincerest Thanks,

Alan J Polyniak

Since budget is indeed an issue, you might consider either the paperback or EPUB version of my book ($20 EPUB), and some of the material on AdobeTV (free, and much of it is mine). I also am finishing up a 5-part TCS integration series for Adobe this week, and the recordings of that are at

You can search the page (Ctrl+F) for Sullivan to find the ones I've done, and there are others as well.

Keep in mind that time spent learning "for free" may also push back your employment opportunities...you might negotiate Fm training as part of the compensation package, or offer to become trained and "intern" for a period of time to prove your worth and to get your foot in the door.

OK, but how do I practice with it without actually purchasing it?  Even the older versions on eBay are out of my price range  (I can barely afford to $20 for your book).
