I start up Framemaker for the first time ever and the interface is completely messed up

I have just launched my demo version of Framemaker and the interface is behaving in all kinds of bizarre and completely messed up ways.

This is what I get when I launch it, and it is clearly not right:

And then when I click on the file menu and then pull the mouse pointer downwards over the items in the menu, the file menu collapses and another menu opens to the right. In the next screenshot, the mouse pointer was just below the word "File" when this menu to the right unfurled. In fact it happens with all the menus. When I click on a menu and pull the mouse pointer down to get to the items in the menu, that menu collapses and another menu so many places to the right unfurls instead.

I came across several other bits of messed up GUI behaviour as well, although I didn't manage to note these down. Why is Framemaker malfunctioning so wildly?

I've just discovered that the problem is related to scaling. I am using a laptop with a FHD screen and a FHD second monitor. I normally have the scaling on the laptop screen set to 125%. If I launch Framemaker when the scaling is set to 125%, it will appear OK on the laptop, but appear messed up, as shown in my screenshots in the OP, on the second monitor, which isn't scaled.

If I launch Framemaker when the scaling is set to 125% and then change the scaling to 100%, Framemaker will appear messed up on either monitor.

If I set the scaling to 100% and then launch Framemaker, it will display fine on either monitor. I can drag it to the second monitor and then change the scaling on the laptop screen to 125% and it will continue to display fine on the second monitor. So temporarily changing the scaling to 100% before launching Framemaker is the workaround. And I already have a shortcut locked to my taskbar to run a one-line powershell script to open display settings, which makes the task a little quicker. But is there a way to fix this bug? Or do I just need to live with it?

What are your shortcut's Compatibility Settings? IIRC there was something in there for hi-definition screens.

I'm not sure what you mean by my shortcut's compatibility settings. Are you referring to the PowerShell script? All that does is open the Windows display settings. I don't have a high-definition screen. Both monitors are 1920×1080.

I had the exact same issue in class this morning, with one of my Introduction to Adobe FrameMaker students. Same issue, same solutiuon. I'd love to hear more about this if there is more to understand.

I'm talking about the Properties of the FM2020 shortcut - there's a Compatibility tab that has a "Change high DPI settings" button on it.
