Index entries in several chapters

New Here ,
Jun 25, 2012 Jun 25, 2012

Hello!

I built an index with entries that would appear in more than one chapter.

E.g. John Smith can be found in chapter 2.3, 3.4 and 7.5

My standard index will then show:

John Smith 2.3, 3.4, 7.5

Is there a way letting FM repeating the entry like this:

John Smith 2.3

John Smith 3.4

John Smith 7.5

What you want is a list, not an index.

Try creating a List of > Markers (Alphabetical) and selecting Index as the type of marker. However, this does not separate multiple entries in a marker into separate lines in the list. For example, the marker content

entry1; entry2

appears as

entry1; entry2    pg#

NOT

entry1    pg#

entry2    pg#

So, if this works for you, you will have to create only single-entry index markers, but you can have as many as you want.

Maybe someone else has a better idea.

Have you tried using brackets in the index markers to specify separate entries? If the chapter numbers are static the marker text would be something like:

chapter 2 marker text: John Smith[2John Smith], or perhaps John Smith[John Smith2}.

chapter 3 marker text: John Smith[3John Smith], or perhaps John Smith[John Smith3}.

Working from memory, not tested.

Search Google for terms like "framemaker index marker entries" without quotes. Here's a good one to start with:
