Issues with Consistency of Table of Contents

Hey everyone!

I'm having issues with my TOC that's being generated. It's three pages long, and the first two look just fine. However as you can see below, the third page is just not right and we can't figure out what's going on/what's causing this. We've tried regenerating, deleting and creating a new one, and replacing the file with a different working TOC, but nothing works. Also, if you delete a line from the second page (bringing up a line from the third page), it formats that line correctly if that makes sense, so we know it has to be something that's wrong with the third page itself and not specifically the content on that page.

Anyone have any ideas??

Hi,

Although the pages look similar there might be slight differences.

What happens, when you select the main text frame on the third page and extend the width?

Best regards

Hi,

Your issue is that the page numbers are not aligned at the right, but follow directly after the heading text.

These headings will have the same content (heading text, tab, page number) as all other headings.

Therefore the space for the tab is smaller than on the other pages.

Can you extend the width of your text frame? Does this help?

Does your first page have a different master page than page 3?

Best regards

I mean yeah the first page has a different master page, but the only main difference is that the first page has a larger graphic in the top right corner. The second and third pages look the same to me on the master pages.

Check and see what master page is applied to that page. It may be that the text frame dimensions are slightly different (too narrow). Navigate to the body page, then choose View > Master Pages and see which master page is applied.

Control+click on the text frame and choose Graphics > Object Properties and check the dimensions. Or choose View > Rulers and see if the tab stop on the ruler is past the edge of the text frame.

So the first master page with the larger graphic in the upper left corner has a 1.5" width and 0.25" gap, while the 2nd and 3rd master pages (which look the same) have 0.25" for both values. But the first and second pages are working fine so that's weird

Hi,

You also have to adapt the master page of page 3 (right).

Best regards

That fixed it actually, but I wonder why it was just that page that did that.
