JRE 8 for FrameMaker

Adobe states that JRE 8 is a system requirement for FrameMaker.

If I understand it correctly, Oracle has recently introduced an employee-based licensing model, where a company now must purchase licenses for all employees, regardless of whether they use Java or not. For large organizations, this easily amounts to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Has anyone here done any ramifications analyses and/or investigations into other vendors' Java software?
