MPJ single source error?

Community Expert ,
Nov 09, 2024 Nov 09, 2024

I am trying to generate WinHelp using the publish dialogue.

BUT whenever I try, I get this error:

FrameMakerdk_0-1731150889082.png

... and the publishing process quits. I am running FrameMaker Version: 17.0.5.725.

Any ideas?...

A quick web search on the runtogetherphrase "MPJsinglesource" gets numerous results, mostly regarding RH, such as:
https://helpx.adobe.com/robohelp/kb/error-internal-error-encountered-failed.html
which has a suggested fix.

Thank you @Bob_Niland It's just that the link to the suggested kb401652.zip is a 404 page, unfortunately.

And, as far as I can see, publishing to MS HTML Help just plainly doen't work. I have tried with a couple of super simple documents with hardly any formatting - same sorry result. Perhaps it is Win11 or some other "thing".

Sorry about the 404, I hadn't clicked that far.

Searching, by the way, also turned up the MPJ Express project. If any of that codebase is involved in the RH MPJ, issues might not get fixed, because it looks like that project has been inert for some 9 years now.

Hi Bjørn,

I just tried that, and I did not get any error messages.

I use FM 17.0.3.

Possibly this is a bug in 17.0.5?

Best regard, Winfried

thx @Winfried Reng Yes, the 05 release apparently has some bugs.

I suspect you may need to load the MS HTML Help Workshop on your machine to get all the files required to compile CHMs. You can find it on the Wayback Machine these days at https://web.archive.org/web/20200918004813/http://download.microsoft.com/download/0/A/9/0A939EF6-E31...

thx @Jeff_Coatsworth you are probably right, but I would really like to avoid installing extra "stuff". I hope Adobe some day will find the ressources to give this "Publish" dialogue a major makeover and make all basic features like pdf, epub etc work more transparantly and with better options for validation.

Had the MS HTML Help workshop been removed from the setup 17.0.5?

In 17.0.3 everything works as expected.

Possibly there are license restrictions, when Adobe did not include it in the setup?

LATEST

I don't really know, but I've heard users of the latest version of RH2022 having issues with missing bits when creating CHMs. Running the old installer seems to restore whatever got dropped.
