Newbie question: Unable to change number color

New Here ,
Nov 07, 2008 Nov 07, 2008
I'm new to FrameMaker and have inherited a document with a formatting issue I can't resolve.

I have a numbering paragraph tag to format the first step in a numbered list, and a second numbering tag that formats subsequent steps. When I apply the first tag, it formats the text, but the number 1 is red. When I format subsequent steps, the numbers are black. I would all step numbers to be black. Where do I specify the color of a number?

I'm using FrameMaker 8.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Make a character format that specifies black, and assign that character
format in Numbering in Paragraph Designer.

Along the same lines: check the format tag for the first item and make sure it does not tag the number as red. In other words, do the opposite of Ken's suggestion: remove the color format, rather than add a color format.

Also try looking for conditional text, especially just preceding the first list item. I have noticed that the first item in a list following conditional text is colored the same as the conditional text, even though the list item itself is not conditioned.

If you do not need the text to be conditioned, then removed the conditioning. If you do need it, set conditioned text not to show the conditioned formatting. If the preceding text is not conditioned, try turning off the condition formatting; if that solves the problem, then you may have a condition toggle (that is, on and off) just before the list item; select the preceding space and set it as unconditioned.
