numbering within a book

I am very new to this program so it might be a very simple fix:

I have a book laid out with 9 pages. Now with in the last 4 pages/Sections I have many diagrams or figures that I need to keep in numerical order. Now I have set everything to Continue Numbering from Previous page in book but when I go through the different Sections It goes from figure 1-37 in Section 1, then figures 1-46 in Section 2 then figures 38-43 in Section 3 and figures 44-63 in Section 4. How do I get Section 2 to follow Section 1?

In the book layout I have it like this.
Cover
Master
Detail
Summary
Intro
Section1
Section2
Section3
Section4

The first step is to check the Numbering properties of the paragraph tag used for your figure numbering. Open the Paragraph Designer (ctrl+M) for such a paragraph and check the Numbering tab. From your description I assume the autonumbering definition uses something like "F:Figure <n+>". If it doesn't start with a letter and a colon, e.g. "F:", you really should change the definition of the paragraph tag, Update All, and import that format definition into all files in the book. This all depends on whether you use a template and who controls it. The next step is to check the Numbering properties of the files in the book. Select "Section1" in your book file, open the Numbering properties and check the tabs called "Chapter" and "Paragraph". They both should say "Restart numbering at 1" assuming you want your first chapter file to actually start numbering at 1... Then select the remaining "Section" files in your book, and check the same tabs. They both should say "Continue numbering". If you change anything in the Numbering properties in the book file, don't forget that you need to update the book to make the changes take! -- /Thomas Michanek
