Pagenation issues

Hi everyone

Anybody know a way in Framemaker 7.2 to insert a page(s) into a chapter and for those new pages NOT to adopt the continuous page numbering.

I need to insert some information in the middle of a long chapter and the rules that I am writing to permit me to number a new page A and B, and for the paragraphs on the new page to adopt the number form the previous numbered page but with a suffix a, b, c etc.

As an example - I want to insert my page after page 6 which had a last par of 10. My new page would be numbered 6A and 6B, and the paragraphs 10a, 10b, etc.

This would enable the new information to be inserted without affecting pagination resulting in extensive reprinting for one page.

I believe in earlier version there was an option to freeze page numbering but cannot find such an option in 7.2.

Any help most appreciated

Brian

Brian,

It's still there, esc p z, will trigger the function. However, it is
not without issues and therefore has been relegated to a hidden
feature.

Brian,

Some things that go bump are: autonumbers reset on every page (since
the pages are inserted as disconnected pages); multi-page tables force
point pages to be inserted for the continuation pages; paragraphs that
break across pages end up getting split into separate paragraphs;
doesn't work with structured files; can't save files as MIF.

There might be more, but that's enough to make one wary.

Brian, if this is something that you have to deal with quite often, you might consider having Framescripts developed to "do the dirty work". Rick Quatro at http://www.frameexpert.com has some plugins to work with Point pages: http://www.frameexpert.com/plugins/pointpages/index.htm

Rick also does custom Framescripts.

I want to know how to scan multi pages into photoshop and save it as a continuous document. In other words I want to scan in about 50 or so pages and be able to save and email this to another who will be able to view all ages by scrolling, I do not want to scan in 50 pages as email them as seperate pages that will have to opened individualy.

Can anyone help me, I am using Adobe Photoshop v7.0

Thanks in advance

I believe you are in the wrong forum, Lu.

FrameMaker does some amazing things, but this is not one of them.

Brian...

If the new information is in the form of errata or perhaps a short bit of additional information, and if this situation does not occur too frequently, you can always create a one- or two-page frame document using the same templates and formats, convert it to PDF and insert it in the finished book at the right location using Adobe Acrobat.

Of course this assumes a lot of things about your end product and does require extra steps, but it works well in some circumstances.
