Para format in Table in Structured Frame - problem

New Here ,
Feb 03, 2010 Feb 03, 2010

Hi,

firstly I'm working in FM 7.0 (Win XP) using customer supplied DTD and EDD.

This is my situation. In my document I have a paragraph format called 'Cell:Left' and this is used within table rows. I wasn't happy with the size of the font (10 pt) so I attempted to change it to 8 pt. I went into Paragraph Designer, changed the font size to 8 and then clicked 'Update All'. My problem is this: when I tab into a new cell (of the same table) and start typing, the font size defaults back to 10 pt. I've checked the EDD to look for format overrides in any of the elements concerned and can't find anything (except a text format rule to use 'Cell:Left'); I've deleted the format and recreated it; I've looked at the table format for clues there but can't find anything.

Have I overlooked something? Have I done somethign wrong or misunderstood the process? Why is the format change not being applied globally?

Advice really appreciated.

Cheers

Carl

Hi Carl,

If it isn't in the EDD or the paragraph format anywhere, it might be stuck in the table format. When you click that "Update All" button in the table designer to save format settings, it remembers a lot of things about the table that you might not realize, such as row/column counts and the nature of text formatting currently within the cells. I would recommend getting a table set up with exactly the formatting you want, then open the table desiger and click "Update All" to reset the forma

Hi Carl,

If it isn't in the EDD or the paragraph format anywhere, it might be stuck in the table format. When you click that "Update All" button in the table designer to save format settings, it remembers a lot of things about the table that you might not realize, such as row/column counts and the nature of text formatting currently within the cells. I would recommend getting a table set up with exactly the formatting you want, then open the table desiger and click "Update All" to reset the format. Afterwards, insert a new table and see if it fixes that problem.

You might already know this, but you also might want to make sure that there isn't any cascading format overrides being applied by the EDD, like from some higher-level element. For example, if a table row element says to apply 10 pt font, it might cause an override in its respective cells, even if those cells/cell paragraphs specifically indicate a known paragraph format.

Hi Russ,

thanks, that worked a treat.

What I did was delete the contents of the table; checked the para formatting was correct; while in the table and table designer, deleted the format for the table and saved; went back into the table and table designer; clicked on Commands/New Format which populated the designer with what I wanted and the right name; saved and then inserted a new table via the structure. Everything worked fine.

Cheers

Carl
