I know that by using the proper Rename function, I can rename a .fm file in a .book file and all cross references from other chapters remain valid.

But some of my .fm files are in non-obvious directories, and are referenced like ..\..\BigBook\LittleFile.fm.

If I simply use Windows to move LittleFile.fm to another folder, the .book file with implode.

If I use the book file's Rename button, I can rename LittleFile.fm but cannot move it.

Is there a way to move the file and maintain all those cross references?

Thanks.

Unfortunately, you can't do both in one go. You can first consolidate all of the files in on location using an Archive Extendscript. See: Create a Book Packager using Extendscript « TechComm Central by Adobe

Then, once you've consolidated all of the files in one archive location, you can rename as desired.
