Removing fonts from a Frame document

I am using Framemaker 9 with the latest update.

Whenever I save a file as a PDF, I get the message that the Helvetica and Times fonts are not available and are replaced with some other fonts.

I am not using Helvetica or Times. When I do a search for these fonts in the document, I can't find them. I looked in the .mif file and these fonts are not there either.

I find this very annoying. Is there any way to get rid of these fonts once and for all.

Thanks,

Mack

Have you checked your Reference Pages? I am not sure but the interpretation of fonts may also be based on the font family and not necessarily by the name. I would also check my paragraph and character tags to make sure there aren't any unused tags that have those fonts specified, even if the document doesn't use them. I once found a font used in an icon that used Text Line text grouped with a vector object that didn't show up in other searches.

Just an uninformed thought ‒ those look like PostScript fonts. What happens if a vector graphic includes text: can that sneak a font reference in?

If the text is a recognized font, then yes--and FM will probably do a font substitution if the same font cannot be found.

In Preferences, uncheck Remember Missing Fonts.

Open and save the files.

I have been getting those messages too and the checking of 'remember missing fonts' mainly does the trick. However, I usually found those (in my case, times font) to be in the generated files such as TOC.

Hope this helps narrow down your search.

In FM 9, use the Fonts pod (View > Pods > Fonts...) to control your fonts, You can toggle the missing fonts and specify what to replace them with. There is no need to do the "Remember missing fonts" toggle two-step.
