We have recently upgraded to Acrobat 9 and now have problems with some Helvetica text not showing up in the pdfs. If we change the text to Arial it prints. Changing/substituting Arial for Helvetica is not an option since these files are structure using modules built by a 3rd party. This is obviously an issue with Framemaker8 and Acrobat 9 so my hopes are that someone else has had this issue and has a fix.

Have you read the other current thread on missing text in PDFs and followed that advice: installing the Microsoft printer Hotfix and verifying that your Helvetica font files are a newish format?
Also, it's hard to make recommendations without your specifying your environment -- OS, network set up / file location, Distiller version and method of producing PDFs...

Thanks Art. Sorry, I looked through the forum and didn't see any Q&A on missing text in Pdfs. We are on Windows XP working files from our desktop and our server. Our normal method of producing pdfs is through File>Print using our minor customized pdf settings for screen viewing and hires printing (we've used these settings for years). Since our upgrade to Acrobat 9 we are now using Distiller 9.2.0.124. I've also found out since I first posted my question that we are not on the latest version of Framemaker8. I will run the updates to get us to the latest version of 8 and see if that fixes what seems to be an incompatiblity issue between FM8 and Acrobat 9. I say that because this problem started when we upgraded to Acrobat 9. If that doesn't fix the problem, I'll get back to you to find out more about the Microsoft printer Hotfix. Unless you know for a fact that FM8 is not compatible with Distiller 9.2.0.124, in that case we'll need to upgrade to FM9.

Hi,
Actually, the reference was my mistake because all Adobe FM Forum stuff goes into one folder on my end. The thread is actually over in the FM general forum.
If you're running XP though, the HotFix will fix most problems -- apparently it resolved a number of XP printing issues that affected both PDFs and other types of printers. So downloading it from Microsoft and installing will get you to a stable baseline. Bottom line is it won't hurt anything and seems to have resolved the issue for most users.

Hi Art, I know this is outside my original question but thought you might be able to give me a quick answer to another. As you know I'm trying to update our Framemaker 8 to the latest version. I'm starting with ver. 8.0.0. The first update available on the Adobe downloads section is 8p266. It says that I need to have already updated to 8p236 via Adobe Update Manager to run that update. So I launched Framemaker and went to Help>Updates and it comes back saying there are no updates available. So my question is, how do I update to 8p236 (can't find it anywhere on Adobe's site) so I can run the other updates needed? I really appreciate your help today and hope I'm not monopolizing your time.

When you do Help > About, what's the p number? That whole string is your current patch level, so you may alread have some applied.

Thanks Art, I was out of the office on Friday. I have our Framemaker8 on the latest version 8.0p277. I spent time this morning looking for the Microsoft Printer Hotfix you mentioned. Is the Hotfix here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/952909 the one you were referring to? There are several, just want to make sure I've got the correct one since it states not to install this unless I'm sure I'm having this problem. It doesn't explicitly describe our issue but it's the closest I could find.

Yeah, I think that's the one.
As I recall, the HotFix fixes a bunch of printer driver issues, almost all of them PS printer-related.
