Hi all,
My problem. I'm trying to do a short (5 or 6 rows) two-column frame in the middle of a one-column text frame then place footnotes inside the two-column frame.
Solution #1. Make a table with no ruling. This is what I would normally do, but this time I need footnotes to go to the bottom of the page instead of the bottom of the table.
Solution #2. Make a new two-column text frame then connect the flows. Unfortunately, this is pushing the flow into areas where I don't expect them to be. Must be doing something wrong.
What I've been doing that doesn't work.
1) Making a normal multiple page flow. Say, 5 pages.
2) Going back to (say) page 2.
3) Inserting a new two-column text frame.
4) Inserting text into the two-column text frame.
5) Connecting the two frames.
But this is feeding text that should be inside the two-column text frame down to below the point where I inserted the two-column text frame. And reversing steps #3 and #4 don't seem to help, tho perhaps I should double check that.
The only other thing I can think of to try is...
1) Splitting the original Flow A into 2 separate frames.
2) Inserting a new two-column text frame in between those two frames.
3) Connecting the three frames.
But I'm not sure this would work.
Anyone know of a good tutorial that deals with this? I used to be fairly expert with Frame..... back when I was using Structured Frame 7.... so don't like wading through 2 hours of video looking for a 2 minute fix.
While I'm not new to Frame, I've forgotten stuff or things have changed.
Ah, the perils of getting old. First thing that goes is your hearing, but fortunately I don't need my hearing aids to read comments here. But I forget what the second thing that goes is....

Hi David,
Start with a 2-column page, and create/apply styles to paragraphs that span columns for your single column content.
That way, your 2-column content is inline with the other content and footnotes will go to the bottom of the page in proper sequential order.

Great idea. Wish I'd thought of it. I'm not sure it'll work, tho as my section headers already use a run-in header (letting me stick another needed text component on the same line). But it's worth trying plus gives me some other ideas.
Thanks much!
David

The run-ins should respect the across all columns of the "host" paragraph.

OK. I'll give that a shot. Thanks!
FYI, my highest priority now is finishing my current chapter as I have lousy workaround. After that, then I'll experiment. This is a HUGE project so I strongly suspect that this situation will occur again. Thus, the issue needs to get nailed down because my boss needs a policy (I'm self-employed in my retirement but my boss is kinda a pain.)
Just as soon as I finish this next chapter....
