I am working on a 16 chapter book right now and am having trouble creating PDFs of 2 chapters. It just so happens that these two chapters had files imported from Microsoft Word for Mac. Seems like a big coincidence that these are the 2 chapters I am having the trouble with. Any suggestions on how to solve the problem? The books is otherwise ready to go to the printer. The chapters are quite large and have graphs so I really do not have time to recreate them at this late stage of the game. I've downloaded any updates for both Microsoft and Framemaker but nothing. Please help!

It's pretty standard operating procedure to save any files that contain imported data out to MIF in order to remove any hidden characters -- Word is especially notorius for hiding all kind of surprises.
Then open the MIF file and save it as an .fm file -- probably over the existing file.
Then try PDFing the chapter by itself.
If that works, do both the problem chapters, rebuild your book in FM, PDF the book, and go get a drink.

Can I do this now that the documents are already formatting in FM? They are ready to go to the printer.

It shouldn't change any of the FM formatting.
Saving to MIF is supposed to remove any hidden characters or stray bits that are corrupting the file -- the most likely reason that you can't PDF them.
If you're paranoid, make a backup copy of 'em, but I doubt that you'll need it.

This worked. Thanks.

What exactly is going wrong with the two chapters? Knowing that will help narrow down possible causes.
When you say you're having problems with just those two chapters, does that mean you are wanting to make separate PDFs for each chapter? Or is it just that the content in those two chapters is somehow munged but you're maining a single PDF for the whole book?
