Unavailable Font Issue...

Contributor ,
Aug 14, 2015 Aug 14, 2015

Hi All,

I am unable to print the Book because one of the Chapter has Unavailable Fonts issue.

How can I find those Text or Paragraph that uses unavailable fonts???

It is only one page document, and I reapplied Paragraph Tags to all the lines, yet I have not been able to figure this one out.

Thanks.

Open all files in the book first. This will force FM to make font substitutions (usually it's a Times vs Times-Roman issue). You can use the Fonts & Replace Fonts pods to make permanent fixes in more recent versions of FM.

Thanks Arnis,

Fonts Pod clearly shows all the Fonts Used; it also marks Missing Fonts.

This is a great tool for the issue I have had.

But what if I actually *do* have all of the required fonts, and I still get the message that the file uses unavailable fonts, and it prevents me from generating and updating the book? I'm using Frame12.

The Font pod lists all of the fonts used in the file, and I have gone through and permanently replaced any outliers, and all of the fonts are installed (and available from the Frame font list) and I *still* can't generate and update my file.

Help!

This is my Font pod -- all is as it should be. This is how it appears for every file in the book.

This is my Book Error Report. What font is "unavailable"?? I can't update my book because of this problem!

Open all of the files in the book first and accept that there are missing fonts. Then you can update your book and create output.

When you open the files, the console window will indicate which font is missing for the specific file.

This helps update the generated files, thank you!

I’m still having trouble opening the files. Even though I have accepted that there are missing fonts and accept that the missing fonts are being replaced, I still get the message on the console saying that there simply are unavailable fonts. I can’t find them anywhere, even using the Font pod and the font replace function.

One way to get rid of the message is to turn off the "Remember Missing Fonts" option in the Preference. Then open the files, accept the missing message and let FM do the substitutions (I'm assuming that you haven't noticed anything amiss in your files with whatever FM is substituting). Then save and close the files to make these subs permanent. Change the Preference setting back and now open the files. You shouldn't see the missing message anymore.

Hi All,

Just to mention, I have noticed same problem as meerac.

I had one file which said "Document uses Unavailable Fonts, Reformat document using Available Fonts". I said OK.

Framemaker Console clearly shows what fonts are missing and which fonts are used to replace them.

However,Fonts pod does not indicate what fonts are missing.

Also, Replace pod is grayed out, so you can not select what font needs to be replaced.

Just finding confusing.

Thanks.

Hi meerac,

If this helps, one way I resolve the issue:

In my book, I have 6 Chapters; I only had problem with one chapter, other five chapters were fine.

So I imported all the formats from good chapter into the problematic chapter. This resolved my issue.

You may even import all the format from another book file into the problematic book and then apply the format to all the chapter in the book.

Hope this may help.
