I have about 1800 files that I need to remove the color pallet from. We only use the std colors and at some point several color pallets were loaded. It is very time consuming to remove one color at a time when a complete pallet was installed. Is there anyway to make this process easier?
We currently have FM 8, but most of the files were done witn MF 7.
Thanks

Sounds like a perfect job for Framescript. http://www.framescript.com
There's a Framescript user group here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/framescript-users/
There are several members on the Framescript group who offer programming services and who may even have such a script already created and available for sale.

As Shelia says, it's a perfect applicaiton for FrameScript, but if I'm remembering correctly, one of the free scripts that is (was, anyway) packaged with the product is a script that cleans out the color definitions. Not sure if it's still in the current release, YMMV, etc.
Also, the CleanImport plug in purges the color definitions and replaces them with whatever is specified in the source file from which new definitions are imported.

I'm looking for the files you talk about, but have not been able to locate. Not sure if IT installed any of the options, I'm assuming that this would be where any plugins or scripts and files would be.
Thanks

JC,
If you haven't purchased either FrameScript or CleanImport (each is a third-party program; not part of Frame), I'm not surprised you can't find 'em.
CleanImport is a plug-in that does one specific job well. You can, BTW, create a meta-book containing the 1000 files (or a subset) that you mentioned, and run the import process once. I believe the publisher is elecrobpubs.com
FrameScript is a Swiss Army Knife -- you can make it do hundreds of tasks because it's a scripting environment. One of those things would be to martch through the directories or book files and perform the cleaning automatically. framescript.com

Thanks for the info. I'm still trying to determine the cause of the issue.
I think it's partly the graphic issue and partly operator issues. The users
really do not know the software and how to use it. I've started going
through the MIF file but have some thing happening that I'm not sure of at
this point.
This issue is, some of the custom colors are coming in as all black in the
MIF and others are coming in like they should. What I'm trying to determine
is if the ones that are coming in are just renamed versions of stock colors
or are they custom colors. If I can figure out what is causing the problem
then maybe I'll be able to fix the problem. I'm also looking at the PNG
graphic issue to see if that will bring in the pantone color pallet.
As you know once I find the problem then I can figure out how to resolve it.
For the moment I have them copy a flow into a new file and go in and
associate the new color pallet to the table colors.

Other solutions, which may or may not be the best solutions:
Save each file as mif, open in text editor, and delete the colors. They are very near the beginning of the file.
Copy a blank copy of your template, copy all in the old file, and paste into the template. I think, but am not sure, that the only colors copied over are those actually used in the document; unused colors are not copied.
But a script or plugin, if available, is probably the best route for such a large number of files.

Partically worked, I have to figure out where some of the colors are being used. The MIF file had colors that I don't think are being used, It did cut our the RGB pallet. It's a start. I also ended up with colors that came in all black. So I've got to do some homework on this. I think its because the color maybe a renamed RGB or reference to an RGB color. Any thoughts?
Thanks

Jim,
Quite often the culprit for spurious colours is the PNG format, if it's not set at 24-bit colour.

I'm looking into this now, but not totally sure this is the issue. My gut feeling is that one of the pantone color palets got installed at some point.
My final goal is to set the colors to what we need and if possible delete all the others. We use the 11 basic colors and about 10 custom colors.
If you have any suggestions or can point me to an article that helps it would be greatly appreciated.
To all thanks for your fast response. All have been helpful.
