Using different versions of Frame

New Here ,
Aug 07, 2009 Aug 07, 2009

I am running FrameMaker 9 and my client is running Frame 7.2. I have be unable to save their project in a format that they can open. I have no problems opening their project and making changes, but once I save it and check it back in, they are unable to open it. When my client attempts to open the book, they receive the following error stating that it cannoy be opened with this release of the product.

How do I save this project in Version 9 so that it can be opened by my client in Version 7.2.

Thanks

You can't, unfortunately. You need to save it as a .mif file, so that your coworker can open it with 7.2. I have the same issue.

Why software is NOT made backwards compatible is beyond my understanding. It's crazy.

FM is backwards compatible, i.e. it can always read an older version. It's just not prescient about what's going to be implemented in a future version.

You can't open a Frame 7 doc in Frame 9 and save it back to Frame 7. You have to save as a mif, so it can be a real bother if one writer has 9, as I do, and the other writer had 9, and you are working with multiple large books a day.

You can either use the sample script included with FrameScript

SaveBookAsMIF to do the contents of a book file as MIF, or contact

Rick Quatro at frameexpert.com for a custom one that saves as 7 MIF.

Sure, but what a PAIN to have to go through all of this to make Frame backward compatible!

Yeah, I agree. It's almost as big a pain as having clients that

haven't upgraded software in five or six years while you keep

current....
