want to hide prolog, but use its attributes

I don't want the DITA prolog element information to display in my FrameMaker document.
But I want to to use information in prolog's attributes to build my headers and footers.

Is there someway to get FrameMaker to pay attention to the attributes of elements that are hidden?

It seems like the useful metadata is in prolog, but really, my users aren't supposed to read metadata. I don't want it to display, but I do want to use it.

Interesting. That would be nice. Off hand, I can't think of any way to do that, but I'll look into it a bit and will let you know if I find a way.

Cheers,
