XLIFF generation causes Framemaker to crash

Anyone have this issue? Framemaker generates an XLIFF file for translation purposes OK the first time. This file is then imported back into Framemaker, and it's imported OK. The problem starts when a second attempt is made to generate the XLIFF file. Framemaker goes to the last chapter of the book and then crashes completely. No error messages are shown, so there's no clue as to what is going wrong. Framemaker can be started OK but continues to crash when an attempt is made to generate the XLIFF from the same book and FM files. I suspect the FM book file is being corrupted by the first XLIFF generation so that when an attempt is made to use it again it stops Framemaker working.

It's version 17.0.0.226. The lastest version to the best of my knowledge.

Are you using the same settings file for export in the second run?

No settings file was touched. I just used the same file after it had been changed to an XLIFF format and imported back into Framemaker. I'm coming to the conclusion that this process changed the file's contents so that Framemaker couldn't export them again as a ZIP file. I've never used XLIFF files before so I might be making a beginner's mistake. I'm going to try a few things tomorrow. It would help to have clear directions in Adobe's Framemaker Help. I didn't expect to see a ZIP file being produced for example: I expected to see an XLIFF file - not a filename with "mifdl" file extension in the middle.

When you export the xliff file from FM for the first time, you have an option for storing all the export settings in a settings file. This is a good thing because it can be difficult to remember all the checkboxes. If you the import the translated - the xliff -  file back intor FM and things look ok - but perhaps not ENTIRELY ok, and you need to have something extra fixed. Then you can export the file once again - but it is important to use the same settings file as in the first round. As for trouble shooting, I have experienced a lot of trouble regarding cross references. So it may be worth your while checking them carefully for length. My issuses seemed to arise from cross references to very long sentenes.

Thanks for the guidance. When I exported the first time I left the settings alone, as I wanted to only use the default settings. I know the window you are referring to with all the checkboxes. I will have a closer look at this window when I can. I shouldn't have issues with Xrefs for long sentences because I follow Simplified Technical English standards; this means my sentences are less than 20 words for instructions and less than 25 words for desciptions.
