Framemaker 10 dropping characters while typing

It's recently come to our attention that about 25 of our users are experiencing a problem with Framemaker dropping characters while typing.

We are currently using version      10.0.2.419 with mainly Windows 7 systems

Most users thought it was just them, but after discussing among the group, found that  a large number of people in multiple departments were seeing the same problem.

Other apps like Microsoft Office do not experience the same issue. Only appears to be happening in FM10

Does anyone have any insight into what might be causing the problem

Thanks

Hi There,

Greetings from Adobe...!

Could you please confirm the below points as this will help us in understanding the issue in a better way-

  1. Are you facing the issue with any specific FM document/book or it is reproducible with a new/blank document as well?
  2. If the issue occurs only with a specific FM document/book then please confirm are you accessing that FM document/book from your local drive or shared/network location?
  3. If issue occurs with a new/blank FM document as well then please try to recreate the preferences for FM 10 by following the below steps-

• Close FM 10.

• Rename the  folder 10 to 10_old in C:\Users\UserAccount\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker.

• Then Rename folder “Linguistics” to “Linguistics_old” in C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe .

• Rename folder “Linguistics” to “Linguistics_old” in C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\Adobe .

• Re-launch Framemaker and check if that makes any difference.

Regards,

Ajit

Looks like most users see the following

Very typical to be the second character when typing. Character is random.

Pausing after the first character for about half a second resolves problem.

  • a few things set it off especially:
    • Highlighting a word and then starting to type to replace it.
    • Moving the cursor to a new place and starting to type.
    • Backspacing (lags a lot, too)
    • Shortcuts, like Ctrl+C or Ctrl+V

Sorry, missed the fact that you had mentioned that in your 1st post - you're up to date (sort of - FM10's now really old)

Is it always the same character? Like the character "u"?

Just in case anyone else is having this problem with later versions of Frame.  I was able to solve this issue with version 13 by renaming C:\Users\UserAccount\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker to C:\Users\UserAccount\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker_old, then restarting Frame.  You loose all your settings but the issue goes away.

Glad you got your problem solved. In case you have more than one version of FrameMaker installed, you can rename just the version folder (rename 13 to 13_old in your case) so that the other folders are not regenerated.
