Hello. FrameMaker 10 and Acrobat xi have stopped wanting to play together --  all of a sudden (an acrobat update?). Sometimes I can't even print to .ps -- won't make a .ps file. The platform is Windows 10.

OK Folks, so here's a follow-up. Since the latest Windows update a couple of days ago, FrameMaker has been making PDFs like a champ. Go figure...

Do you have the full version of Acrobat? Did you install it after installing FM10 or before? Is it working (creating PDFs) in applications outside of FM?

Jeff, in answer to your questions: I do have the full version of Acrobat. I installed it after installing FrameMaker. It's having no trouble making PDFs from other programs (e.g. Word).

Thanks,

Joanna

Hmm, I just fired up an old copy of FM10 to play around with printing to the Adobe PDF "printer" and doing Save As PDF - both seem to work with my copy of Distiller (version 11.0.2017) - what version of Distiller is being reported for you guys?

My version of Acrobat Distiller is 11.0.0779. Should I try to get my IT folks to upgrade? (I don't have admin rights so can't do it myself).

Regards

Keith

I haven't updated Distiller. Just checked online to find out how to do that but was not enlightened. Could you tell me?

Thanks!

Hi Jeff,

That's interesting. I did go to Help, earlier, to

see if there was an update feature, but there

wasn't. Just went back and checked to make sure I

hadn't missed it, but there's no option to check

for updates. Under the Help menu I have:

Acrobat Guide

Distiller Parameters Guide

pdfmark Guide

Hmm..just tried using it on mine & I can capture it no problem. What about the PrntScrn to clipboard, paste in a Word doc, snip that image?

Weird that I can't get the About screen to stay

in place while I snip it and you can. However,

the PrntScrn technique worked. I've attached the

About screen, with a little extra info in the window behind it.

You can't attach files in the forum - you can use the web interface to display screenshots or you can add links to some location like Dropbox, Google Docs, etc.

Okay. I don't know how to do either of those things. That is, I have a dropbox account and have uploaded the image to a folder for you, but I don't know what address to send the link to. The link feature in the text box (I'm writing to you from the browser window) wants a URL but the DB URL is not precise enough. Perhaps it's easier to use the web interface, but I don't see an option to display screenshots.

By the way, I have discovered that I can make a PDF file if I print a document to the Adobe PDF printer, creating a .ps file. When I double-click that file Distiller won't open it -- I get a message saying "There was a problem while sending the command to the program." But if I right-click the .ps file and select Open with Adobe Acrobat XI, it creates a PDF file. Go figure...

Sounds like your install is somehow messed up.

Here's where you add screenshots in the web interface:

Capture_image.PNG

Then you get this screen:

Capture_image2.PNG

where you select the images to insert.

I included the Distiller window, but I see now that there's no useful information there.. Distiller_About.jpg

Ok, now I see why you're not getting the Help > Updates option - you're opening up Distiller, not Acrobat Pro. Regardless, you seem to be up to date in your version anyway, so I'm not sure what's changed that has affected your install. Maybe it's a Win10 thing (I'm still on Win7).

Well, I switched to Win10 a year ago, with no

effect at the time on FrameMaker's ability to make PDFs.

Funny thing is, I notice that I have to first

double-click on the .ps file at which point I get

the error message; then I right-click on the

filename and tell it to open with Acrobat and it

creates a PDF that I can open. If I just

right-click on the .ps file and say "open with

Adobe Acrobat" I jget an error message. Very odd.

Sorry about the confusion with Acrobat vs Distiller.
