How do I insert a symbol?

I watched the Framemaker tutorial "Inserting Special Characters" but, when I clicked on the symbol I wanted to insert, it inserted a Latin symbol instead.  Help!

Is the symbol actually resident in the font being used in the location that you applied it? You may need to apply a character tag with an appropriate font to get the actual symbol/glyph to show.
