I have a Heading4 with autonumbering. However, when I use a heading 1,2,3 and then use the heading 4, it does not reset.
Heading1 starts with 1.0
Heading2
Heading3
Heading4 say it increments to 1.1.1.10
Heading1starts with 2.0
Heading2
Heading3
Heading4 this shows up as 1.1.1.11 instead of 2.1.1.1
Hi @tekwrite1955:
Is Heading1 an incrementing heading number within a chapter, or is it the chapter number?

My brain is not working. The numbering for headings is
H1 (5.1)
S:\t< ><n>< >.<n+>< =0>< >< >< >\t
H2 (5.1.1)
S:\t< ><n>< >.<n>.<n+>< >< >< >
H3 (5.1.1.1)
S:\t< ><$chapnum>< >.<n>.<n>.<n+>< >< >< >
H4 (5.1.1.1.1)
S:\t< ><$chapnum>< >.<n>.<n>.<n+>< >< >< >
Not sure why H3 and H4 are the same? (I inherited the files from the client) 🙂

So.... heading 3 AND heading 4 are not incrementing correctly.

H1 (5.1)
S:<$chapnum>.<n+>< =0>< =0>< =0>
H2 (5.1.1)
S:<$chapnum>.<n>.<n+>< =0>< =0>
H3 (5.1.1.1)
S:<$chapnum>.<n>.<n>.<n+>< =0>
H4 (5.1.1.1.1)
S:<$chapnum>.<n>.<n>.<n>.<n+>
You will need to put in your tabs, etc.

I should have put my "chapter" numbering in. Not using <$chapnum> but the following:
S:Section < ><n5>< >< =0>< =0>< =0>< =0>< =0>\ \
Yes I know the section number is hard coded and would rather not mess with that.

The numbering is for "chapter 5".

Then just replace <$chapnum> with <n=5>
