When I add the \t building block to a paragraph tag, I get a number. How do I make it just do a tab and not include a number?
As it turned out, I was able to fix the issue by installing the "fm5font.ttf" font.
If anyone else has the problem, go to the following folder and install the "fm5font.ttf" font (right-click and select install).
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\AdobeFrameMaker10\fminit
Thanks for everyone's help.
P.S. The the unwanted number was only showing up when the text symbols were being displayed. If I turned those off, I could no longer see them, but installing the fount is a better solution.

Are you in Para Designer > Numbering Properties?
What, exactly, does it show in the auto-number text box?

In what field of what dialog are you adding this?

In any version, if the only thing in the Auto-number format text box is a tab, you will get a tab in front of every paragraph using that paragraph tag. Don't forget you have to set the tab stop.

I'm in the Paragraph Designer, in the "Autonumber Format" field.
I first added the bullet building block and when I test that, I just get a bullet. I then added the \t building block and the tab works, but includes the number 1.
Looks like the:

If you want a bullet and a tab the auto-number text box should simply show:
•\t
Erase what is there, and click the first two buildng blocks, or you can just type \b\t.
It sounds like you have <n> or <n=1> in the middle of what you actually want.

I tried all of your suggestions, but even then, I still get a number with the \t block.

Just to see if there was something strange in my file, I closed all open file and restarted FrameMaker.
I then created a new file and using the default paragraph tag of “Bulleted, I still get the same results (the number 1 is included).
In playing with this new file, I also noticed that the default “Numbered” and “Numbered1” tags also add the number 1 when used.
Very strange.

Out of curiosity:
- does the problem appear if you use *only* a tab (e.g. "\t" instead of "\b\t")?
- what font is being used?
- what happens if you add another tab (e.g. \b\t\t)?
As for other ideas.. would be ideal if someone here with FM10 could try out the actual file for you. That would indicate immediately if the issue is your installation of FM10, or if it's an actual bug.

Is it always a 1? What if you have 4 bullets?

Are you on the most current Fm 10 patch?

Just checked. All patches are installed.
If I do multiple bullets or numbers, It is just using the number 1.
This is a screenshot from a new file using the default tags.

Well, my final thought is to save the file as .MIF. Reopen it, save it as a .fm and see if anything is different.
Let's see if someone else has other, better, ideas.
