Is there a Clear Layer command anywhere? Or do you just have to delete the layer and create a new one?

Hi Hew.

Right now, deleting a layer and creating a new one is the only way to clear.

But, some way to clear a layer of all its content, without having to delete it, is a functionality that's being considered.

Hopefully you guys can add this quickly. So many of the other drawing apps have a quick, one step way of doing this (i.e. drag three fingers downward, 'clear layer' popup command in the layer options, etc). Having to delete a layer and then add another layer to continue working is very clunky and constantly slows down your workflow. Many thanks for working towards getting an elegant solution implemented.

FYI - I found that I could use the selection tool the select the entirety of the layer, then the Erase option while the selection tool was enabled, and that cleared the layer without deleting it.  So, that's a second way to clear a layer.

And you could create an action that does it, and attribute it a keyboard shortcut.

My bad, the question popped up in the sidebar of the Photoshop forum, and I did not see it was a Fresco one...

Indeed, there are no actions in Fresco...

Great idea! This worked for me:

  • Create an action that does select-all/delete/deselect.
  • Keep the action selected in the Actions panel
  • Create a keyboard shortcut to Play Action.
  • Set stylus eraser to do the keyboard shortcut.

Result: Life slightly easier. Thanks!

Quick workaround: add layer mask, invert layer mask, right-click on mask and apply mask. That will quickly clear layers without you having to rename anything or erase.
