HELP! Change install drive for CS6

Community Beginner ,
Aug 10, 2015 Aug 10, 2015

I have an amazing new computer with a wonderfully fast SSD but it's a small drive. Of course Adobe wants to run in the fast lane with the system but it's too big.

I need to be able to change the install drive location however, the install disk doesn't provide this option.  I've checked the forums and can't see how to do this.

I had previously installed on C so I need to move files or uninstall and clean up and reinstall.  Please help.  I'm out of space on C and can't scrub.

Sending love to anyone who responds.

First uninstall and then use the CS Cleaner tool.  Then when you go to install again, be sure to specify the desired drive when the installation options are presented... be aware that some of the Adobe software must be installed on the C drive and you cannot control that.

Thanks Ned for the reply.  My challenge is that the install disc doesn't provide the option to choose a different drive, only the C drive.  YIKES.

I have just discovered that between the app and the Lightroom catalog and smart previews folder that I just don't have enough room to properly run LR and Photoshop on my system, no matter what partition drive I use. So, using Creative Cloud, I have temporarily uninstalled LR, telling it to save all my settings. I would like to be able to use it again, eventually, if just for it's capability to interact with my smart phone. But in the meantime I would like to remove the Lightroom catalog folder (over 83 gigs) from my C drive to free it up.

I have already made a copy of the Lightroom folder in question onto an external hard drive (the main one I use to store my images, eek!), but I would like to know the best way to do things in order to give me the smoothest transition when it comes time to reinstall LR.

I will either be replacing the hard drive in my laptop with a small SSD drive and a separate larger hard drive where I will want most of my software apps running or I will get a whole new laptop using a similar setup. In the first scenario I am concerned about the mirroring process as I will only want the operating system info on the main drive and only what absolutely must be on it. And can the LR folder reside in the secondary drive? In regards to the Adobe apps, should I move the programs to the larger partitioned drive on my current system now, using the above advice, before I transition to the new hard drives or is there another procedure to consider?

Thanks in advance.

So, though your reply makes sense, it doesn't really help, because I can't change the default drive from C to D on install - which is my quandary. I've searched the interwebs for wisdom and hope the Adobe gurus will have some hidden secrets the rest of the world is waiting to discover.

I'm going to correct myself as I apparently spoke too soon (shame on me!).  After using the cleaner, the install did let me select another drive.  So thanks, Ned!  You were so right.  I guess I had some random file tripping me up.  It's all better now.  Sending love and baking you cookies, which I will eat for you.
