that's usually caused by an incompatible update being applied, but can also be caused by missing or moved files/directories.

it would probably be easiest to uninstall ps and then reinstall it.  then apply any updates.

you could also update manually:

cc updates:  win (http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cc-updates-direct-links-windows.html) /  mac (http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cc-updates-direct-links-mac.html)

cc 2014 updates:  win (http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cc-2014-updates-links-windows.html) / mac (http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cc-2014-updates-links-mac.html)

cc 2015 updates: win(http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cc-2015-updates-links-windows.html) / mac (http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cc-2015-updates-links-mac.html)

as i wrote in the post above yours... i have the update files on my harddisk already.... manually updating will not work.

and the update is for my photoshop version... i am 100% sure of that.

also an incompatible updates should display the message that it is not meant for my photoshop version.

but i get that error message after the updater has tried to install the update.

i did not move any files. i don´t touch my photoshop installations and move or delete files.

im happy when it finally works as expected. it takes long enough after each update to fix the issues.

i have already reinstalled photoshop when the former update was released.

it can´t be the case that i have to reinstall photoshop every time adobe releases a new update.

who is paying me (an all the others affected by these update issues) for my time?

it´s sure an easy solution for adobe "oh well just install everything new and see if that fixes your problems"... but adobe has to code robust installers/updaters.

that´s ridiculous to be honest....

sorry but adobes callcenter support is absolutely useless.

i spend hours on the phone this week because of another problem that they could not solve.

no way i want that horrible experience again.

if you failed to delete your ps settings and clean your computer after uninstalling, you could try that.

uninstall ps

reset your preferences::  https://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776

clean per Use the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems

restart your computer and retry installing ps.
