3d extrude makes all faces besides front black /unshaded

I swear this worked before. When I select "extrude" in the 3d panel the shape that is created has color/lighting on only the front face. All the rest are black. I just reset all preferences, turned GPU on/off and updated Illustrator and it still doesn't work right. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any help.

The color of 3D object depends on stroke and fill color. Try to change colors.

As Ares suggested:it depends on stroke and fill color. Try to remove the stroke.

If you want to keep the stroke, you may also use classic 3D extrusion and assign a custom shading colour in the advanced section of the dialog. Then play a bit with the other Light parameters.
