Even with a M4 silicon Macbook Pro, rendering in real-time can be slow. In my Settings, GPU performance is enabled, and I have ray-tracing turned off. My example is editing 3D text and is painstakingly slow because it tries to render each time a character is typed and shows the rendering dialog each time as well. In attempt to get around this issue, I tried editing the text in 'Outline mode' but AI still shows the render dialog with each change to the text. Also, I lowered the document's raster effects setting to 72dpi. However I really thought 'Outline mode' would solve this issue but apparently not. Is there any way to disable the rendering dialog or to speed up editing 3D text?

How much RAM is installed?
How complex is the artwork?

I have 48gb installed. The text I'm working with has a pattern fill , an envelope distort, and a drop shadow applied, in addition to a 'Inflate' effect using the 3D tools. In 3D tools, I didn't tweak any parameters for the 'Inflate' effect and it doesn't have but a default texture applied to it.
I tried recreating the text again with identical properties as above and now I'm able to edit the text almost normal speed. Maybe I had an unknown effect(s) causing the problem. But starting over the seemed to have worked.

Get rid of that pattern. Does it get better then?
