Actions leaving out some steps

Community Beginner ,
Nov 30, 2023 Nov 30, 2023

I recorder few actions with these steps:

  • Paste in front
  • Resize
  • Rotate
  • Move (and copy) * 4

It happened several times, that the action left out a single step in the sequance - e.g. left out rotate or resize but continued with the rest. It never left out the first step in sequence though. Always second or third. And without any alerts/errors from AI.

When I undo the steps with Ctrl+Z and start the action again, it runs ok and goes through all the steps (so the action is recorded fine).

Sometimes it happens, when i use the given action for the first time in the day in illustrator, but not everytime...

Have any of you had similiar issue?

So unfortunately, this is not the solution. I tried all Playback options several times.

But it led me to believe, that it happens only on the first instance of using given step of the action, when i start Illustrator.

So it could be maybe solved by using a script at the beggining of each Illustrator session, that would create random object, rotate and scale it (so the step is "used") and delete the object.

That way, when the action wants to do the step, it was already used and it should work.

Yes, this may happen sometimes for some unknown reason.

You may check if enabling the Step by Step or Pause for Seconds option in the Playback Options does help.

Thank you for your imput. Will try it in following week.

Though it is very slow that way and defeats the purpose of action for me 😞

Martin, I tried your action and it works smoothly, no matter if one runs it immediately after starting Illustrator or at a later time.

However, your action can be simplified a bit. You may try the following version that should do the same as your action, but obviously speedier (and perhaps more reliable).

Martin Mach Simplified

I tried the simplified actions, but apart from a few errors ("Cant move the objects. The requested transformation would make some objects fall completely off the drawing area." or (The object "Move" is not currently available.") it just threw the pasted object off the artboard somewhere and did nothing similiar to original action.

Well, then you need to provide some more infos about the context. For example, what are you trying to process with the action? What exactly do you paste in front in the first action step? How large are the objects you paste in front?
