Activated Simplified Chinese Adobe Fonts not showing up in Illustrator

Whenever I activate a simplifed chinese font in adobe fonts, they never appear in illustrator. I've check in my cloud acccount that the font is indeed activated and I have "show east asian options" checked in my type preferences. I don't have this issue with Noto Sans CJK KR (a korean font) but anytime I activate an simplified chinse font it never shows up in my font menu in illustrator.  Thanks for any tips and advice!

Checking the "show font names in English" option in preferences/type solved the problem for me.
