Adding Artboards Skipping and Duplicating Numbers

I noticed today on some previously created files that my artboards are skipping 2, and duplicating 4 and 6.

I replicated this glitch in a new file just by adding pages (not duplicating).

I quit illustrator and opened a new fresh file and no glitch. Upon reopening glitched files the glitch resolved itself. 

I've seen very old posts about similar issues, but just wanted to document it and record my fix.

I am on a macbook Pro, M2, 2022 running Sanoma 14.3.1 using Illustrator 28.2
