Adding regular corner controls to text boxes

Is there a way to get text boxes to resize like they do in Indesign?
What I mean is, you click on a text box and get regular corner controls that let you resize the box and text area as needed.
The current process of resizing text boxes by selecting corners with the the direct selection tool is time consuming (and irritating).  I recognize this give some extra freedom, but for day to day work, it really gets in the way. Even if there was an option to turn this feature on in preferences, it would be a big help.
