Illustrator opens normally, but when I try to open my first .ai file it freezes around 70% and stops responding. I have to force quit and restart. I tried moving the file to my desktop, but the same thing happens. I updated today, and this wasn’t an issue before the update.

@ericg27993070 When an app starts acting "goofy" immediately after an update, corrupt preferences are almost always the primary suspect. Go to Preferences (Cmd K on Mac, Ctrl K on PC). Click the Reset Preferences button at the bottom. Click OK and restart Illustrator. Illustrator will cleanly wipe the settings file back to it's default settings.
Be advised, it will delete any custom workspaces and kyboard shortcuts, panel locations, tool settings, recent list

Does Illustrator freeze and crash when attempting to open just that one file or does the application crash when opening any .AI file after launch? If it's just the one file causing Illustrator to crash is there anything different about the file? For instance, is it an Illustrator .AI file that was created and saved using Illustrator; or is it an .AI file exported by another vector graphics application? Does the file have any linked images? Does any of the file's contents have live effects from third party plugins? There may be other variables to consider. I've seen things as minor as a malfunctioning font file cause application crashes.
