Adobe Illustrator on MacBook Pro and iPad as Second Monitor

I am attempting to trace something on my iPad while using it as a second monitor. I'm trying to use my pen in the best way, but when I use the pencil tool, I don't like the anchor points it adds. When I use the paintbrush, I like what I see, but when I pick up the pencil, there is an automated smoothing that ruins the trace. I'd like to turn off the smoothing of the pencil, or at least adjust the settings.

So you are not using Illustrator on the iPad, but the desktop version, right?

When you double click the pencil tool, there are options.

Same goes for the brush tool. Did you already try these?
