Apply Gradient Along Stroke does not work

I am trying to make a stroke with gradient that follows the curve of the stroke. But no matter what I do, the gradient only goes from left to right.

I have "Apply gradient along stroke" selected, all my stroke settings should be correct, but the result is just left to right. 

I have also updated AI to the most current version.

You used a calligraphic brush. Try a normal stroke (basic).

I am sad that calligraphy brush doesn't have the same feature, but I'll live.
