Will Artificial intelligence make Adobe Illustrator redundant in the future?
If so-called "AI" was able to make Adobe Illustrator redundant the whole graphic design industry would probably be in ruins as well. There would be zero value in any creative work if it's just being churned out by AI bots. That's what AI would deliver if taken to its full potential.

If so-called "AI" was able to make Adobe Illustrator redundant the whole graphic design industry would probably be in ruins as well. There would be zero value in any creative work if it's just being churned out by AI bots. That's what AI would deliver if taken to its full potential.
I'm sure there are lots of business people salivating over the idea of replacing human graphic designers with AI bots. There are many other industries where business people are thinking of the same thing. With all the investor hype going on about AI, the quiet part they're not saying out loud is AI could generate a lot of profit by firing lots of human employees. They dance around the subject by saying human workers will be freed up to do more enjoyable things. They'll have so much more free time because they won't have a day job getting in the way!
What the business people enamored by AI seem to forget is 70% of our economy is driven by consumer spending. An AI bot doesn't buy anything. AI doesn't go the movies, eat at restaurants, buy clothes, pay taxes or any of that stuff. Employed human beings do that. If you automate away enough employees you'll automate away your customer base and the tax base that keeps basic services running.
So far I'm not all that impressed with what AI tools can generate in terms of graphics. The AI bots struggle with abstract visual ideas that are very common in graphics. The AI bots only seem to imitate what already exists and don't do it in a very clean manner.
I also don't like how these data centers increasingly driven by AI tools are sucking up staggering amounts of electric power. It's bad for the environment and it's causing big price hikes on electric bills for ordinary people.
If the scientists and engineers are able to create a digital bot capable of Artificial General Intelligence they'll open one heck of a Pandora's Box.
