Assigning an AZERTY keyboard to an ENGLISH illustrator version (short cuts reasons)?

Hi everyone, i work in France and I. thought i could use an english illustrator version with an azerty keyboard. But it got tricky as i realised it would not match my azerty keyboard automatically. Is there a way  to indicate to my english illustrator version (somewhere in the pref. ? but i couldn't find it) to switch to AZERTY keyboard instead of QUERTY ? (NB. Azerty, only for some softwares, not for the entire system)

It's a bit of a mystery, because, for instance command + A (correspondance on a querty keyboard = command + Q) or command + W (correspondance on a querty keyboard = command + Z) are working fine. On the other hand, for example i created a personnalised shortcut with a ")" - in the EDIT/personnalised KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS section it shows the shortcuts with the ")" sign (azerty) BUT on the illustrator OBJECT/ARRANGE menu. It shows a"0" instead of a ")" (as on a QUERTY keyboard).

I wish to continue working in english wich should be so much easier, but i would like it to match my azerty keyboard. Is it possible ? I shouldn't be the only one in this case wanting that, right? So how do i do that? Any idea?
(Working on a macbook pro, sonoma 14.7.3 with the latest adobe creative suite)
Thanks for your help 🙂

Working with 3 different languages in application, system and keyboard will just overwhelm Illustrator in any aspect.

If you enter the character that should be in the menu, does Illustrator accept that?

Hi Monika, i am in France. I work with an azerty keyboard. My general langage and region preference Os system are all in french, but i choose to downloaded Illustrator in english international. So there are "only" 2 langages.
I will take the same example.
In the illustrator menu (EDIT > KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS…) i entered the custom keyboard ⌘) i.e COMMAND BRACKET with my AZERTY KEYBOARD, and it showed ⌘) - But it won't show the same on the illustrator menu afterwards :
OBJET > ARRANGE > BRING FOREWARD, will show the shortcut ⌘0 i.e COMMAND ZERO, instead of ⌘)
QUERTY keyboard ZERO position key [ 0) ] but on a Azerty ZERO is on key [ 0à ] . Correspondance of ) on AZERTY on key [ °) ]

So, it won't match. i will have to type ⌘ + key [ °) ] instead of ⌘ + key [ 0) ]

Is it clearer ?

There are two field in the Keyboard shortcut setup.

One in which you enter the shortcut itself and the other in which you enter what's in the menu. Does it help when you explicitely enter the letter in the second field?

If it doesn't help, then that's that.

I'm German. SOmetimes using an English Illustrator on a German system. So some modifier keys will always be messed up or not work at all. There are feature requests, but it hasn't been implemented yet.

Thank you Monika.
In the Keyboard shortcut setup, the sign " ) "was aready on both fields, but on the illustrator object menu it indicates 0…

By the way, the field on the right doesn't seem to be editable. Anyhow, i couldn't.
It automatically replicates the sign typed on the left. This is why i thought it was strange as it doesn't show the same in the illustrator menu afterwards.
No solution, but thanks for trying.

Just a crazy thing : since some vanilla shortcuts don't work with my AZERTY keyboard, I manually overwrite them in the "Keyboard Shortcuts" menu of Illustrator.
For some of them, even if they are properly set up and understood by the "Keyboard Shortcuts" menu, they still don't work when I try tu use them. And it's not always the same from one version of Illustrator to another.

I see that as a poor quality of a software. How can you call a soft "professional" when it can't even assign shortcuts properly?

Hello @MaxAff,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Could you confirm the version of the OS/Illustrator installed and check if the problem persists after rebooting your computer in Safe Mode (Windows / macOS), so we can better assist you?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Anubhav
