Brode & Coud,

As I (mis)understand it both ends are pointed, and in thsa case you can make it as follows (always keep a backup of the original artwork and work on a copy), Smart Guides are your friends:

1) Hide the original pointed path and select the copy path;

1) Click both the Anchor Points that form the ends of the shape with the Scissors Tool, this will give you two open paths;

2) Select both paths with the normal Selection Tool, then set the Blend options to 1 specified step, then Make

You could open the Attributes panel, then Select "Show options" from the menu. Select your rectangle and with the button on the left turn on the center point.

You could also Object > Shape > Convert to shape, which will also show the center.

So you were talking about a rectangle and I seem to have missed the part about the free form lines or maybe they got lost in translation. Sorry. It's clos to impossible to get the lines back once the paths have been expanded.

You could cut the shape at its points and then try and blend the two paths. Might or might not work.

I'm sorry, I can't understand what you are asking for. So here's how the blend works:

This ought to give you the centre path midway between the paths in the sides; you can use that with the original closed path.

With some paths it just won't work.

And then you just have to draw it.
