Can't change keyboard increments?

Hello! This problem probably has a simple solution, but I can't find it! I can't change my keyboard increments. It's locked in at 18in and when I change the number and hit 'OK' I get that 'plonk' sound of doom that means it is not going to work and then it doesn't and when I open up the General settings box, it's set back at 18in.

I haven't seen this issue addressed before, and closing down and restarting didn't fix it. Help?

Thanks!

Mystery solved-- sort of. I needed to move something by a 24 inch increment. But this is impossible, because the increment limit is 18 inches. So my preferences weren't "stuck"—they can't be changed to the number I want. Womp, womp.

Did you try to reset you preferences?

Just reset them! And I'm still having the same problem. It's even still stuck at 18 inches. But thanks for the suggestion!

Which preference are you talking about changing? The keyboard increment is a preference, and I can't get it to go larger than 18 inches. Another response suggested getting out of Illustrator and starting back up or, failing that, rebooting the computer. Neither of those worked. I'm in v. 25.2.1. I'm pretty sure I used increments larger than 18 inches on earlier versions.

When you say "closing down and restarting" do you mean Illustrator or your computer? Most of the strangenesses I've encountered over the years have been fixed by one if not the other.

The keyboard "nudge" function isn't intended for that kind of large jump.

For that, try for example, moving your object to the right 24 inches by entering +24 in in the X field of the transform panel. (That is, take advantage of Illustrator's mathematical capability by entering it after the existing entry. For example, with your object selected, the X field says '2'. Click to set your cursor to the right of that 2 and type +24in, then tap Enter. The object will move 24 inches to the right of its previous position and the X field will now read '26'.)
