Yasmin,

Have you tried this,

1) In the File dropdown click Place,

2) Browse to the folder with the image, then click it and tick Link (unless you wish to embed, then click Place?

Yasmin,

What appears when you click Place in the File dropdown?

The browsing bit is omitted here,

https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/importing-artwork-files.html

This includes it (you can ignore the multiple, as you can see in 2) it says A. Select one or more files,

Where did you put the folder with the downloaded files?

Can you see other folders or images?

Have you tried doing a search of the entire computer from your desktop? If you are on a Mac click on the desktop and key in Command-F. Then in the search field in the upper right enter the name of one of the images you're looking for. A list should then appear in the finder window. Click on the name of the file you're seeking and in the bottom of the window you should see the path to that image. To search for a file in Windows see: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/find-your-documents-in-windows-5c7c8cfe-c289-fae4-f5f8-6....

Do you still see the images in the Downloads section of your browser? You can open it and click the "Show in the Folder" option. So you will find the folder.

If you see the folder during import but don't see the images try to change the file type: open the drop-down list in the right-bottom part of the import window and select "All files".

BTW, what is the type of images?
