Can't Save Illustration: ID: -5000

Hi. We've upgraded to Illustrator CC recently and when trying to re-save an .eps file to our server we get the following message: "Can't save the illustration. You do not have enough access privileges. ID: -5000." This occurs even though my administartor has granted me full access and privileges, and only happens to Illustrator EPS files. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I know OP was in 2014 but I thought a clearer answer was needed (and I also came across this issue in 2018...)

Permissions on my blank templates folder had no admin and had everyone set to read-only.

the solution i came up with is as follows.

Two options are:

Changing EVERYONE to read and write

Add ADMIN to have read and write and keep EVERYONE read-only

IMHO it is an error when the installer made or edited these folders. But seems like it is easily fixed.

If you cannot find the template folder, you ca

To fix this, I attempted to access the folder for templates directory, but could not find a way on the latest Mac OS. Instead, I remembered a setting for full disk access. Simply go to security and privacy and click the privacy tab. Then in the left hand column is a list of apps and other stuff. Scroll down until you see a folder icon labeled "Full Disk Access". Click it. On the right side you can select programs that have requested full access. I turned it off previously. Click the checkbox for

Hey guys. I'm using a mac and also had this annoying warning message pop up every time I tried to save or export 'not enough access privileges'

After ages clicking around on illustrator I figured out a way that seems to fix it.

First step go to file and click file info near the bottom.

Next step, at the bottom you will see preferences and a drop down bar next to it, click on that and click on export and then click OK.

I'm not saying this will work for everyone but it seems to have fixed the pr

Hi there, I just had help from apple to see what the issue was.

Very simple fix.

Go to System Preferences
Security & Privacy

Full Disk Access

I found that my software, creative suite, indesign, illustrator, photoshop were all unticked.
After ticking, quiting and opening up back the software, I had full access again.

I hope this helps someone.

So I have just had the same problem.  Get an external Hard drive. Clean up your desktop and download everything.  Empty your trash to free up space.  Easy Peasy nice and Cheesy. I was able to save and no -5000 showed up.  I have a Lacie 3T it is totally worth it.

I have an existing hard drive (seagate) I recently updated my adobe suite to an M2 mac mini. I tried saving a file directly to the hard drive and the ID:5000 error came up. I've changed all the permisions to read and write everywhere i can think of including the "cool extras" "adobe illustrator" itself and the hardrive with no luck. I can save on the desktop, documents and basically anywhere except my hard drive which I've used on my m1 mac mini before the upgrade. I can save on the desktop and drag it into the hd but cant save directly from illustrator to it. I cannot erase the hard drive due to the fact that im still using it. Please help.

Is the M2 Mac Mini able to "see" any files on the external Seagate hard disc in the OSX Finder file manager app? Does the external hard disc still work properly when connected to other computers (such as a Windows-based PC)? Was this external hard disc formatted for Mac-based computers (HFS+ or APFS)? Or was it formatted in NTFS? Normally it shouldn't be a problem for an Apple device (Mac computer or iPad) to read a NTFS formatted hard disc. I'm a Windows user (and have an iPad Pro), but I don't know if the current version of OSX has any setting that needs to be turned "on" in order to read a NTFS formatted external hard drive.

As long as the external hard disc is working properly then the problem is likely a permissions issue, as described in the solutions/correct answers of this discussion thread.

It does see the files the files in finder and in the save as window when saving in illustrator. The hard drive worked fine on the m1 mac mini. I changed all permissions on all folders, apps and accounts. Am I missing something?

The hardrive was formated for mac based computers. I use it for my mac book air when im out and about with no problem. If its a permission issue still then I need to retrace my steps because im sure i change all the permissions discussed on the thread.

This is exactly why I switched over the Figma, Illustrator is riddled with hickups like this that slows you down. Nowadays I simply use Illustrator to prepare stuff for print, but I'm so thankful it's not my daily design tool anymore.

Ran into this issue today and ran through it giving the Adobe agent remote access.

For Mac users who are trying to save the file directly to an external drive you have to grant the application access to the disc.
