Can't use function keys for tools, on only Illustrator

I use my mouse side buttons as function keys that on every other adobe app allow to me to revert back to the comp/artboard fitting and to my selection tool and have been natural to me for a long time now.

Illustrator however has rules on the shortcuts that prevent me from using function keys for any of the tools and I am struggling to find a key for my side mouse button that I can use that works with the other adobe apps, works with illustrator, and doesn't trigger any of windows shortcuts once I am using it with alt/shift/ctrl etc.

Does anyone know if there is a way around this in Illustrator?
It seems like a really unnecessary thing to not let people do
