After recent AI update, found there's major issue when select grouped drawing or multiple drawing to fill another color. It refuse to change any color, only if you UNGROUP or use SELECT SAME FILL COLOR.
( in COLOR WINDOW shows changed but not in the drawing. )
It's a chaos when you have layered of groups ( or small group within bigger group ) and cannot ungroup. Its a simple function to change color in previous version but what happened to the update? Any beta test? Adobe?

Can you please show your objects and their structure (layers panel).
And also the result of the operation in the Appearance panel?
Exactly how are you defining the new color? Using the color panel or the eyedropper?

Hi Monika,
I'm sorry for the late reply, the Adobe e-mail was accidentally marked as spam mail.
Attached a movie of screen capture showing the problem I'm facing. It's showing steps of changing color in a group of object, I need to ungroup to recolor most of the time. Strangely it's rather random.
I'm working in only one layer with groups of drawing and outlined type.
Would you please have a look and see if you have any idea of this?
Since this is a project for my client which still in progress, would be great not showing to public.
Appreciate your reaching out.
Have a good day.

.... and how this is organized in the Layers panel.
If this is about "Changing everything black to red", then Recolor Artwork is an option as well.

Hi Monika,
Have redo the screen capture for you to see how the graphics layered.
Also tried to show you it's not able to change color nither in CMYK or PMS color.
- can change color if use SELECT SAME FILL COLOR.
- can change color if ungroup like showing in the movie.
This happened since previous update around AUG, I think. Had another project when I was trying to recolor a group of graphic.
Thank you!

At this point in the video you can see that the red fill is below the 'Contents':
This means it is underneath whatever individual fills the objects in the group have.
Drag it above the contents to see the red fill on the whole group.
Edit: You can also double-click on 'Contents' to edit the fill of individual objects in the group, but this will only work if all objects have the same appearance.

I would rather avoid getting into that situation where there is a fill applied to the contents of the group and then an additional one to the group which completely covers up the fill of the objects.
The video is too fast, so I cannot see exactly how the fill gets applied in the first place. Using the eyedropper tool? And also the layers panel doesn't show the structure inside the group, it jiust shows a layer.

You're right, I agree.
Perhaps try deleting the fill from the group level, then clicking on a swatch.
