Cant see the options for deleting anchor points only?

Can anyone help?

I can't simply delete anchor points within a line without breaking the shape... I have seen a post showing that there should be an option to do this within the pen tool as image attached, but this is not showing up for me. Anyone know how I get this option up? I can't see anything in 'view'.

I used to use the selection tool to marquee over unwanted points then delete them without pathways being deleted. What am I doing wrong here?

That option shows up when one or more anchor point is selected with the direct selection tool.

You can also use the delete anchor point tool.

And you can turn on "Add/Delete Anchor points" in Preferences > General and then delete them with the pen tool.
