I have been too used to using the shift key for free transformation and no shift key for proportional/locked-in transformation in Photoshop. Is there a way to change to that same setting in Illustrator for scaling? (I do not free transform as quite as often, so it's irritating to use the shift key for every little change.)

As far as I know there is no way to change that in Illustrator. It is still the same as in Illustrator 1.0

Hello @Nahidur309949169mak,
Thanks for reaching out. Would you mind enabling the option for constrained proportions in the Properties panel to check if it helps?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

You may use the Free Transform tool turning on the Constrain button in its widget.
Note that the Constrain option is not persistent, so you have to reactivate it as soon as you use a different tool and then switch back to the Free Transform tool.

It does work only if you drag the corner points. It would better if I could adjust scaling with the points on the four sides, it's still no better than holding shift. But hey thanks for reaching out!

Maybe I am crazy, but because Photoshop, remove that function that you can resize proportionally without holding Shift key...that, I was so used to that, I actually created a script to keep doing that. I am so used to that, it's a process....but, when I teach Photoshop, I have to remind myself to tell students, they can resize proportionally without holding Shift, but in Illustrator, they have too!

Hah! People have their own preferences. I started using Photoshop in the recent years with latest versions (from 2020 and so on), well I have known many people who prefer the other way around since their used to that (and I thought I was crazy at that time). But anyways, as far as I can remember, you can always switch back to holding shift for proportional scale by checking the 'Legacy transform' in the preferences. Wish Illustrator had the same option.
