Hi, I made this fairly new to illustrator and more than likely did not draw this image properly haha, so I am trying to work with what I have while I learn to use the tools.

I'm trying to use the brush to add some shading but whenever I create a clipping mask it kind of breaks the shape. What did I do wrong and how can I fix it? Images for reference.

Thanks in advance!

Hard to tell what goes wrong, but you could try the brush to paint inside a selected object. https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/how-to/draw-content-behind-and-inside.html
