Color fade

I have a need to transform the butterfly (see attached image) from purple to natural monarch colors (purple in the lower right to natural in the upper left).  I am new to AI and PS (and have both) but don't know how to accomplish this.  Tutorials I've found suggest using adding another layer then fade them together.  However that fades the whole artboard.  I want to fade only the butterfly.  Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.  TIA

This is a raster image, right?

Then better use Photoshop.

You could use Hue/Saturation (as an adjustment layer) and then target the magenta/Yellow/reds and adjust the color or fade it.
