Hi there,
Thanks for reaching. GPU preview is for faster rendering of images in Illustrator. For more details please take a look at this help article: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/illustrator/kb/gpu-performance-preview-improvements.html
Let us know if this helps or if you have any further questions.

CPU preview doesn't use the graphic card, which in some cases is necessary, because the GPU is only quick, but neither precise nor can it render some things at all (I'm talking about you, knockout groups).

Oh, thank you, then.
What about CPU preview? Is it just a normal function?

Another way to put it is that GPU preview doesn't work very well and never will.

I love GPU preview, it speeds up previewing my files enormously (even my knockout groups love it!). But yes, sometimes you need to switch to CPU, which is a very simple shortcut.

I guess I don't work with artwork that's so complex that I'm waiting for screen redraw often enough to appreciate it. Its inaccuracies and other quirks mean I generally avoid it.

Monika,
A truly exquisite wording. I will link to it in the future.

I'm running an Radeon Pulse RX 580 8 GB on a Samesong 4K monitor. If I don't set up Illustrator 2020 to boot when I reboot my Mac Pro it will run sluggishly and jerky, especially when using the grabber hand. But as soon as I quit and reboot Illustrator, it's sluggish and jerky. When I move the Illustrator window while it's sluggish and jerky to my 2K monitor Illustrator performs fine, just as it does when it first boots with my system.
Any thoughts as to why this would be?

How do I get the colours to look vibrant- and how accurate is the colour if I send to print from cpu viewed file?
